Mediator issues in A4000.

Eindelijk tijd gehad om mijn A4000 verder in te richten, echt gestrand. Ik heb ook de leverancier al aangeschreven voor officieel support maar misschien dat iemand van jullie nog wat inzicht kan verschaffen:

Het gaat trouwens om een black Mediator 4000Di MKiii 3V

I run into the following problem with the Mediator:

It runs fine after a cold boot (power on).
- Voodoo 3 2000
- ZorRam 128 MB in Zorro slot
- Cyberstorm PPC
Mainboard is recapped and PSU is also refurbished.
All memory is detected fine.
MMCD + update 2.5 and PCI.library 11.0.
I have some nice P96 screen modes setup and the PPC Warp3D "gears" demo runs fine over the Voodoo.
On poweron it shows up fine in the early startup menu, 2 devices for the Mediator, 1 for the ZorRam and 1 for the Cyberstorm PPC

But.... When I reboot (Ctrl - A - A) the Mediator is not recognised anymore.
- Without any cards it reboots fine, but no Mediator is recognised and PCIInfo returns: "Can't open PCI.library"
- With the Voodoo PCI and ZorRam in Zorro slot a reboot results in the same situation as without any cards (Mediator not recognised, "Can't open PCI.library"), if I remember correctly
- With the ZorRam in the Zorro slot and without PCI cards a reboot gives a bootloop with yellow screen (bus issue)

Directly after reboot early startup menu shows only 1 entry: Only the Cyberstorm PPC is shown, the 2 entries for the Mediator are not there and the ZorRam is not there (even when it is in the zorroslot)

I tried all jumper combinations on the Mediator bridgeboard, no difference.
I tried some different slots, not all, but the issue also happens without any cards in the mediator, so I didn't see any use in trying all combinations.

With my original A4000 daughterboard everything works 100% OK (although no PCI cards obviously :)

According to this guide https://mediators.github.io/ see section 4.1.1, exactly the behaviour I have, it's most likely a mediator issue.

Je hebt wel een tof systeem maar dat gaat niet zonder slag/stoot werken vrees ik. Desondanks vraag ik mij als eerste af:

Welk OS draai je en welke kickstart roms heb je? (Ik hoop OS3.9 en kickstart 3.1 want dan kun je al een hoop oorzaken uitsluiten)

ik zou dit zeker ook even droppen op amiga.org, daar zitten wat meer lui met jouw configuratie.

Welke Buster versie heb je?

Het kan zijn dat je Mediator board niet goed contact maakt.

Je kunt eens alle kaarten inclusief de Mediator eruit halen en opnieuw alles één voor één erin zetten.

Nadat je Mediator board weer erin gezet hebt, doe de driehoekige kaart van de Mediator er nog niet in en probeer ZorRam eerst en reset je Amiga en kijk of het werkt.

Daarna doe je de driehoekige kaart erin en probeer weer te resetten. Als dat lukt daarna de Voodoo 3 2000 kaart.

Ik heb zelf ook de black Mediator 4000Di MKiii 3V en de mijn config ziet als volgt uit:
Moedebord gecapped.
Voeding niet gecapped.
Commodore 3640 met 060 adapter en 68060@50 Mhz Rev 1, De 3640 is geupgraded naar Rev 3.2 met Remove two wait states mod.
Individual Computers Bigram Plus 256 MB.
Z3 Fast Lane met 32 MB geheugen SCSI rom 8.5.
Prisma Megamix muziekkaart.
Ati Radeon 9250 PC met 5 Volt modificatie.
Realtek 10/100 MBbit netwerkkaart.
WD 80 GB HD IDE HD
IDE to CF adapter
BenQ 1670 DVD Brander.
Chinon 1,76 MB diskdrive.
Custom ROM 3.9 voor de 68060.

Thx! Zonder bridgeboard proberen is een goeie, had ik nog niet geprobeerd. Zonder mediator en zonder origineel daughter board en ook met origineel daughter board werkt alles feilloos.

En inderdaad vergeten:
OS 3.9 BB 1&2, Rom 3.1, buster 11
IDE splitter, idefix97, cf op IDE poort 1, slim CDRom op IDE poort 2. Die slimline CDRom kreeg ik niet aan de praat als slave op de eerste IDE samen met de CF.

Wat ik me bedenk, die BB2 heeft een nieuwe ROM update. Ik zal eens zonder OS, of met WB 3.1 proberen en kijken of ie na een reboot dan wel herkend blijft. Ook de IDE splitter zal ik er eens uit halen. Ook al denk ik dat het eerder iets hardware matig (hitte) gerelateerd is. Een reboot vlak na een cold power up boot werkt nog. Een reboot nadat het systeem een paar minuten gedaaid heeft niet.

Updatetje:

OK, I'm more and more thinking the bridgeboard is faulty.

- I tried the mediator busboard without the bridgeboard, with ZorRam and everything just runs fine! Leaving the machine on for quite some time and then reboot after reboot, the zorram is detected without problems.
- As soon as I put in the Mediator Bridgeboard again, same problems arise again. Then I thought, well maybe it's the ROM update of BB2, since it only happens after a reboot. But I tried it without HDD. Powering the machine on, shows Mediator (2 items), CSPCC and ZorRam. Leaving the machine on with the kickstart screen for a few minutes and after a reboot, again the same problems.
